GPS units vs phone maps on the same route

Ran the Olympic Peninsula loop twice last summer, once with a dedicated GPS and once with just my phone. The phone died by day three and the GPS had a trail split that wasn't on the paper map. How do you all handle backup navigation without carrying three devices?
