Was watching a training video and realized I've been doing hair extensions backwards for 3 years

Saw this clip from a Babe hair class last night where they showed you should always tape the wefts at a 45 degree angle not straight across. I've been placing them flat this whole time and wondered why my clients had that annoying bump. Anyone else ever have a YouTube video just wreck their whole technique?

Appreciation post: the 'cheap' 8 dollar hand plane that actually worked better than my 80 dollar one

Bought a no-name hand plane from a flea market in Portland 3 years ago during the whole "buy vintage tools" boom. Everyone online was ragging on cheap planes, saying you needed a Lie-Nielsen or nothing. Well, I spent 8 bucks, spent an afternoon flattening the sole and sharpening the iron, and that thing has been my go-to for trimming door jambs ever since. The expensive one sits in the case. Has anyone else found a budget tool that outshines the fancy stuff long after the trend died?

That moment a news anchor sneezed during a live segment and the crew cut to weather too early

I was watching the 6pm local news in Phoenix last Tuesday when the anchor sneezed right on cue, and the director panicked and cut to the weather guy mid-chuckle. The weather guy was caught fixing his hair for a solid three seconds before he recovered. Has anyone else seen a crew jump the gun like that?

Hit my first 30 day streak in my bullet journal today

I never thought I'd stick with it this long, but I kept a simple daily log for a full month. What surprised me was flipping back through and seeing I logged 14 days where I felt tired at 3pm. I found that stat just by counting dots in my mood tracker section. It explains so much about my afternoon slumps at work. Has anyone else found a weird pattern in their own logs that caught them off guard?

The 'healing' retreat I paid $2,000 for turned into a full-on recruitment pitch

I went to a three-day wellness retreat in Sedona last month that was advertised as trauma recovery work, but by day two the leader was pushing us to sign up for a $10,000 'advanced program' and cutting off anyone who questioned it. Half the group left after a woman started crying and the leader told her she was 'blocking her own healing' by resisting the offer. Has anyone else dealt with a retreat that crossed the line into cult-like pressure?

Rant: Solar lease vs buying panels outright - which is actually smarter?

I'm in Phoenix and been going back and forth on this for months. Leasing would cost me $0 down but lock me into a 20 year contract with a 2.9% yearly escalator clause. Buying a 6kW system would be $15k upfront but I'd own it after 7 years. I ended up going with buying after my neighbor showed me his electric bill went from $280 to $40 a month in summer. The lease companies here are predatory with those hidden fees when you want to sell your house. Has anyone else run the numbers on both options in a high sun area?

Shoutout to the guy who told me to check my attic insulation after 3 summers in Tucson

I moved in back in 2020 and the AC just ran nonstop every July and August, costing me around $280 a month. Last spring I finally crawled up there and found maybe 4 inches of old beat down fiberglass, so I blew in R-38 worth of cellulose for about $600. Now my bills are down to $160 in peak heat and the house actually holds cool air - has anyone else seen a drop this big from just insulation?

Three days to match a single potsherd to its vessel

I spent a whole weekend trying to fit a broken piece of pottery back into the right bowl at the dig site near Santa Fe. Turns out the sherd was from a completely different layer, about 200 years older. Has anyone else had a mismatch throw off their whole classification?

Rant: Comparing Dollar Store duct tape vs 3M at 3am in my kitchen

So my pipe under the sink started leaking at 2am last Tuesday in my apartment in Columbus. I grabbed the cheap duct tape I had in a drawer, the kind that feels thin and smells like old plastic. Wrapped it around the joint three times and it just peeled off within 5 minutes. Water everywhere again. Then I remembered I had a roll of Gorilla Tape in my toolbox from when I fixed a vent cover last year. Put one wrap on dry and that stuff held solid for 12 hours until the plumber showed up. The cheap tape cost me a mop and a wet rug to throw out. Has anyone else found a random tape brand that actually saved them in a pinch?

Guy at my gym swore cold showers cured his joint pain

He told me he'd been doing 3 minute cold showers every morning for 6 months and his knees stopped aching. I asked him if he changed anything else and he admitted he also quit soda and started stretching. Has anyone else had a friend credit one thing when they actually changed multiple variables at once?
