My sister-in-law called my 'cheap' meal plan 'sad' and it's been bugging me
We were at a family thing last weekend and I was talking about my weekly meal plan, which is mostly beans, rice, and frozen veggies. I can feed myself for about $35 a week. My sister-in-law, who works in marketing, said 'That sounds so sad, Avery. You deserve to treat yourself more.' She wasn't being mean, but it hit different. I grew up with not a lot, and making a big pot of chili that lasts three days feels smart and safe to me, not sad. Her comment made me wonder if being super strict on food costs is a good habit or if I'm missing out on some simple joys just to save a few bucks. Where's the line between being budget smart and making your meals a chore? Do you ever feel judged for your cheap eats?
