I was about to give up, but then I read about feeding it with whole rye flour instead of all-purpose. The difference was immediate, it doubled in size within six hours. Has anyone else found that a simple flour switch fixed a stubborn starter?

Serious question, anyone work the old pier pilings in Galveston Bay?

We were cutting a section last Tuesday when my buddy's torch just... quit, no warning, right at 90 feet. Turns out the silt cloud we kicked up had a pocket of something that snuffed the flame and jammed the regs. What do you guys use to check for gas pockets in zero viz mud like that?

Hot take: I used to just replace the whole control board on those finicky Bosch dishwashers, but after one in a 2018 model, I started swapping the $15 relay first.

Saved the customer over $200 on parts and labor, and it fixed the 'no start' issue 9 times out of 10. Anyone else find themselves defaulting to the simpler, cheaper fix more often now?

I was grabbing coffee in Millerton last week and an older lady at the counter saw my color swatch book. She pointed to a dusty rose shade and said, 'That's the exact color of the sky right before a summer thunderstorm rolls in over the cornfields.' I'd always just seen it as a cool-toned pink, but her description clicked. Now when I'm doing a color consult, I try to connect the shade to a real memory or feeling instead of just warm or cool. Has anyone else had a simple comment change how you explain color to people?

Tried using a free AI voice clone tool on my own videos and the results were way too good

I wanted to test how easy it was to make a fake, so I used a free online tool to clone my voice from a 30 second clip of me reading a recipe. I fed it new text, something I'd never say, about a fake product. The audio it made was scary good, no weird robotic sounds at all. I played it for my roommate and he totally believed it was me, which was the opposite of what I expected. I thought these free tools would be obvious junk. It made me realize that the audio side of fakes is getting really hard to spot without special software. Now I'm torn between thinking we should push for better detection tech or if we need laws to limit these tools. Has anyone else had a test go sideways and make you more worried instead of less?

A client asked me to 'steam clean' her pores with a literal clothes steamer

She brought in a handheld garment steamer from her closet, convinced it was the same thing we use for a facial. I had to gently explain that our equipment is medical grade, calibrated for skin, and costs about $2,000 for a reason. Has anyone else had to talk a client down from a truly wild at-home idea?

A friend in my cooking group said air fryers are just for frozen food

We were at a potluck in Cincinnati last fall, and I brought my crispy air fryer chickpeas. My friend Mark took one look and said, 'Oh, you used the easy button. Those little ovens are just for reheating fries and nuggets.' He was dead serious. It stuck with me because I use mine almost daily for fresh veggies, salmon, and even small cakes. In my experience, that view really limits what the tool can do. Has anyone else had to defend cooking real food in their air fryer?

My uncle swore by wrapping brisket in foil after 4 hours, and I finally tried it last weekend.

He said it would keep it from drying out, but my bark turned out soft and steamed instead of that nice crust. Has anyone found a better way to keep a brisket moist without ruining the bark?

Trying to fit a sheet around a soffit with plumbing vents coming out at different angles. What should have been a quick cut and hang took me almost 4 hours of fiddling. Anyone have a good trick for measuring those oddball three-way corners?
