Lost a $400 detail job because my scale was off by 7mm

Was working on a commercial kitchen counter spec for a client in Portland last Wednesday. Got to the install and the whole thing sat 7mm proud of the wall because I didn't double check the scale on my plotter. Anyone else ever get burned by trusting your machine too much on a tight deadline?

WARNING: That lens fungus spread way faster than I expected in 60 days

I got a nice old 50mm f1.4 back in March with just a tiny spot of fungus near the edge. Thought it would be fine for a while, didn't rush to clean it. Checked it again two months later and the fungus had spread across like a third of the rear element. The before and after photos were night and day, hazy and soft where it used to be sharp. I learned the hard way that storage humidity matters a ton, my cabinet was sitting around 70% after I tested it. Now I toss silica gel packs in every case and check lenses monthly. Anyone else had fungus jump that fast on them or am I just unlucky?

Hit 12 inches of annual rainfall and suddenly my adobe walls looked different

I track precipitation at my place near Tucson and crossed 12 inches last week. That's way above the 8 inch average for this area. My exterior plaster started showing these thin cracks along the south wall and I'm wondering if it's from the extra moisture or just normal settling. The old timers here say adobe needs dry cycles but this year was anything but dry. Anyone else dealing with unexpected weather shifts throwing off their desert home plans?

Debate: Are variant covers a genuine art form or just a cash grab? I've seen both sides now.

I used to think variant covers were just a way for publishers to squeeze more money out of collectors. Like, who needs 15 versions of the same issue? But then I picked up a Skottie Young variant for a $4.99 price tag at my local shop last month, and the detail in the art really blew me away. On the flip side, my buddy swears they're ruining the hobby because it's all about flipping them on eBay now. What's your take - do variants add value to the reading experience or are they just overpriced distractions?

Had to pick between tuck pointing a whole wall or just patching the bad spots on a garage job last month

I chose the full tuck point because it looked like the right way but man it took twice as long as I guessed and the homeowner kept asking if I was almost done. Anyone else ever regret doing the extra work when nobody notices?

Hot take: adobe brick is overrated for desert builds

I spent last summer fixing a 60 year old adobe wall in Tucson that was basically crumbling from monsoon moisture. A neighbor swore by it for keeping cool, but I had to resurface half the thing. Has anyone else had better luck with something like compressed earth blocks?

Picked the higher salary offer over my dream job. Regretted it after 6 months.

I took a property management gig paying $58k instead of the non-profit role for $44k. But the corporate culture was soul-crushing with zero flexibility, and I ended up quitting anyway. Has anyone else chased money and later wished they hadn't?

Guy at the comic shop said my pull list was 'basic' - what do you think?

I was at Cosmic Comics in Portland last Saturday grabbing my weekly stack and this guy behind me sees my copies of Batman and Spider-Man and goes 'you really just read the mainstream stuff huh'. I told him I like what I like and he just shook his head and walked away. Is there really a right or wrong way to choose comics or are some fans just gatekeeping for no reason?

Got a message from a stranger who said my video breakdown saved them from a scam

Someone in my town messaging me on Facebook said a deep fake of their 'cousin' asked for $500 for bail but they remembered the weird eye blink pattern from my post and called them out instead. Has anyone else had a real impact like that from just sharing what you know?

The moment I realized every apology video follows the same 3-step formula was when I timed Chris Pratt's 8 minute apology and he spent 6 of those minutes talking about his new movie

Watching his eyes flick to the teleprompter in the first 15 seconds tipped me off that nothing he said was real, and now I can't unsee it in every single celebrity apology, has anyone else noticed them slipping in product placement?.
