My cheap hostel bunk collapsed in Prague last month

I was trying to save money and booked a bed for $12 a night. In the middle of the night, the whole wooden frame just gave out and I hit the floor. I had to sleep on a mattress on the floor for the rest of the stay. Has anyone else had a bunk bed fail on them, and what did you do about it?

Pro tip: Don't try to 'save' a hotel room by using a public bus in Bangkok at 5 AM.

I landed super early to avoid paying for an extra night, thinking I'd just take the local bus to kill time until check-in. The bus driver didn't speak English, I got on the wrong line, and ended up at a ferry terminal 20 kilometers away. I learned that a $6 Grab ride is WAY cheaper than losing half a day confused and sweaty. Has anyone else had a cheap transport plan totally backfire?

My flight search trick for getting to Europe for under $400 round trip

I was trying to get to Lisbon next fall and every search from my home airport was over $800. I read about searching for flights to a bigger hub first, then booking a separate cheap local flight. I flew into London Gatwick for $315 on Norse Atlantic, then grabbed a $45 Ryanair hop to Lisbon. Total was $360, saving me over $400. Lots of folks swear by packing light to avoid checked bag fees, but I've found that isn't always the smartest move. For longer trips, I need to buy essentials at my destination, which ends up costing more than a checked bag fee. Last year, I paid $30 for a checked bag but would have spent over $50 on sunscreen and extra clothes I forgot. Having my stuff with me means I don't waste vacation time shopping for things I already own. Plus, some budget airlines charge just as much for overweight carry-ons. Being able to pack properly has saved me stress and cash in the end.
