Changed my mind about Golden Age comics after a bad week last March

I used to think Golden Age stuff was mostly boring and just for collectors. But last March I had the worst week - my car broke down, got into a fight with my boss, and my cat ran away for 3 days. I was stuck at home and grabbed a stack of old All-Star Comics my uncle gave me. The first issue had a scene where the Flash just stops to help a random kid fix his bike, no big deal. It hit me different, like these heroes were just decent people first. The whole week I read through about 15 issues and it honestly made me feel better than any modern comic has in years. Has anyone else had an old comic totally change your mood during a rough time?

Our CRM migration failed so hard last Tuesday we lost 3 days of lead data

I mean we spent 8 weeks planning this move from HubSpot to a new platform and it still went sideways. The API mapping kept dropping fields like company size and industry tags without telling us. Ended up having to pull a backup from Monday morning and re-enter 14 deals by hand. Has anyone else had a migration tool just silently skip critical fields like that?

Rant: I finally stopped adding a weekly habit tracker to my bujo

I spent 4 months tracking things like "drink water" and "floss" in a fancy grid and never once looked back at it. Last week I just started writing the habits in my daily log with a check mark and it actually works better for me. Anyone else ditch dedicated trackers for just keeping it in the dailies?

Picked bias tape over a serger for my last project and I'm still kicking myself

I was making a cotton dress last month and had to decide between using bias tape to finish the armholes or finally learning how to use my friend's serger. I went with the bias tape because I thought it would be faster and I could just iron it on. But the curve on the armhole was way tighter than I expected and the tape kept bunching up. I spent like 4 hours unpicking and redoing it to get it even halfway decent. Meanwhile my friend finished a whole shirt with her serger in 20 minutes flat. Has anyone else had bias tape totally fail on a curved edge like that?

Hot take: using a baby monitor to hear the hoistway saved my bacon last Thursday

I was working on a 6-floor install in an old building downtown and kept hearing a weird scraping noise from the top of the shaft but could never catch it on the rope. After 3 trips up and down the ladder I grabbed my kid's old VTech monitor from the car, aimed the parent unit at the hoistway, and set the baby unit on the machine room floor. Dead quiet in there but I walked down to the lobby and heard that scraping clear as day through the receiver. Turns out a loose guide rail bracket was rubbing on the cab roof every time it passed the 4th floor. The building super thought I lost it when he saw me holding a baby monitor, but it saved me about 2 hours of climbing and guessing. Has anyone else used some weird gadget for troubleshooting that actually worked?

I finally picked salted butter over unsalted for my sugar cookies

Every recipe I ever read said unsalted is the way for baking, so I stuck with it for years. Last weekend I ran out and used salted by accident in a batch of cutout cookies. The edges got this tiny bit of extra crispness and the salt balanced the sweetness perfectly. Has anyone else made the switch or am I crazy for liking it better?

Showerthought: Why do so many new construction homes have the breaker panel in the worst possible spot?

I was wiring a house up in North Carolina last week and the panel ended up behind a bathroom door that swings inward, making it a real pain to work on, and has anyone else noticed builders doing this more often lately?

Had the worst week of my career last month in a 40-year-old Miconic 10

I was stuck troubleshooting a Miconic 10 system in a downtown Chicago office building for five straight days. The thing kept throwing random door zone faults and stopping between floors. Finally on Thursday I realized the serial data cable had a tiny nick in it from where a rodent chewed through the insulation. Replaced that 15 foot section with a shielded Cat5 and it ran perfect for the rest of the week. Has anyone else dealt with weird intermittent faults from chewed wiring in older elevator controls?

Finally figured out why my older Lincoln 225 AC was sputtering on 1/8 rod...

Swapped from the box store electrode holder to a Tweco 3/0 setup and it made a world of difference. Had been fighting arc blow and inconsistent starts for weeks on a job near Nashville. Has anyone else seen that much improvement just from upgrading the stinger?

Saw a whole pig breakdown change at the county fair last fall

I was at the Smith County Fair in Ohio last September, watching a demo by an old timer named Earl who still breaks down hogs with a hand saw and bone knife. He showed me how he trims the belly for bacon, and I realized my electric bandsaw was wasting nearly 3 pounds of meat per pig. Has anyone else tried going back to manual tools for certain cuts to save yield?
