Took a shortcut through a logging road in Oregon and it added 4 hours to my hike

The map showed it as a dotted line so I figured it was fine, but the road was completely overgrown and I had to backtrack twice. Has anyone else gotten burned by relying on old Forest Service maps for off-grid routes?

Was the dotted line still showing on a recent map or an old one?

You're asking if the dotted line was on a recent map or an old one... I used to think it didn't really matter which map you looked at, but I saw a comparison someone posted a few weeks back. The dotted line was totally gone on a 2024 satellite image, but a 2019 one still had it clear as day. That really changed my mind about how fast this stuff can fade out.
