Pool guy told me my 6 year old pond was basically a dead zone and now I can't stop thinking about it
Had a guy out to look at our pump last Tuesday and he wandered over to the pond while he was waiting on a part. He asked how old the water was and I said I top it off every couple weeks, never really drain it. He just nodded and said "so it's been the same water since 2018?" Then he explained that topping off leaves all the minerals and junk behind, and I've been basically adding to a slow build-up for six years. It hit different because I always thought fresh water from the hose was the healthy move. Now I'm wondering how much of my murk problem is just old water and not algae at all. Has anyone here done a real partial drain and refill, and how much did you swap at once without stressing the fish?
