PSA: check your pond liner for tree roots in fall, I lost 200 gallons overnight
Two weeks ago I walked out back and my water level in the 8x10 pond had dropped about 6 inches. Found a pencil-thick willow root that had grown through the liner right at the fold near the skimmer. I patched it with a piece of EPDM scrap and some 3M 5200 sealant, cost me $12 instead of a $400 liner replacement. Anyone else deal with roots punching through, and does that sealant actually hold long term or am I kidding myself?

A pencil thick root is not the same as a full willow root mat, which is what usually kills liners. One small patch with 5200 might hold a while, but that stuff stays flexible and sticks to rubber pretty well, so you are probably fine for a season or two. If the tree is still there though, the root will just find another weak spot, so the patch buys time, not a fix.
