Raccoon figured out my bin latch at 2am and I found out the hard way
Last Tuesday around 2am I heard something crash onto the concrete pad behind my garage in Boise, and when I went out with a flashlight my 55-gallon storage bin was tipped over with the lid popped open. The latch I rigged with a bungee cord had slipped off, and a raccoon was sitting in my bag of grass seed like it was a beanbag chair. I ended up drilling two holes through the lid edge and running a small carabiner through them, plus set a $9 solar motion light on the fence pointing right at the bin. Two weeks in and nothing has touched it, but now the light goes off every time my neighbor's cat walks by. What are you all using to keep critters out of your bins that doesn't need a key?
