Tried stacking firewood loose vs. crisscross in my Portland backyard last fall, and the crisscross pile was dry by December while the loose one was still wet in March

Loose stacking lets rain funnel straight down the middle and it never gets airflow. Anyone else have luck with a different stacking pattern, or is crisscross just the way to go?
