Two months ago my friend asked me to look at his lawn care site in Boise because he was stuck on page 4 for 'lawn mowing services'. I told him to stuff 'lawn care Boise Idaho' into every other sentence and buy 20 backlinks for $150. He came back 6 weeks later with zero movement and said 'honestly man, that felt like you were just throwing stuff at the wall.' So I actually read the Google starter guide instead of skimming it, and the thing that got me was how they talk about matching what people search for, not what you want them to search for. I rewrote his 3 main pages around real questions like 'how often should I mow my lawn in summer' and we stopped buying links. He's at number 7 now.
