I bet my buddy $20 that the "worst take" thread in our group chat would be debunked in 5 minutes, and I lost
Last week my friend Dave sent our group chat a screenshot of a post claiming that buying a house is always a worse deal than renting in every market, and he was sure someone would tear it apart fast. I told him nobody would bother because the post was so vague it wasn't even worth replying to, so we bet $20. Twenty minutes later our other buddy sent back three charts from two different cities showing rent going up faster than mortgages, and suddenly the original poster was doubling down saying the charts were fake. What got me was how sure the guy was, using words like "always" and "never" and acting like anyone who disagreed was just lazy. I have seen bad takes before but the confidence level on this one was on another planet, and it was the kind of thing you could check in a library or with one call to a realtor. I lost the 20 bucks and honestly I was happy to, because it showed me that people in my own circle will actually do the work to break a bad take down. Has anyone else here ever put money on a take getting wrecked, and did you win or lose?
