Saw a TikTok from some wellness guy in Austin pushing untreated spring water as 'alive' and 'pure', then the comments went full cult mode. He literally said tap water is 'dead chemistry' and people ate it up, forgetting the whole cholera history thing. How do we even start unpacking a take that ignores 150 years of water treatment science for a $12 bottle?

That same argument came up in my neighborhood group last year when some local guy started selling "mountain spring water" out of his truck. A few people swore it tasted better and felt cleaner, but nobody could answer why the city adds chlorine in the first place. The thing is, you can't just argue about taste or vibes when the whole point is keeping people from getting sick. I started asking simple questions like "what's the testing procedure" and "where's the source, exactly" and suddenly the hype died down. Sometimes just making people explain the practical stuff is enough to show the gap between the story and the reality.
