My roommate got me hooked on a 2004 reality show about parking lot makeovers and I've seen 31 episodes
Three weeks ago my roommate was sick on the couch in our apartment in Sacramento and put on this show from 2004 called Pimp My Ride knockoff about people's terrible cars, except it wasn't cars, it was like, landscaping their front yards in one day. I walked in during episode 4 and this family had a lawn that was literally just dirt and a single folding chair, and by the end there were fountains and a pergola and the mom was crying. I sat down to make fun of it and then I just... didn't get up. We burned through 31 episodes in about 9 days, which I know is bad. The host has this fake sympathetic voice and every episode has the same beat where they reveal the yard and someone gasps like they won the lottery. I keep noticing they never show who pays for any of it and the before/after shots have totally different lighting. Has anyone else fallen into a show this dumb and come out the other side with a weird soft spot for it?
Man, 31 episodes is nothing to be ashamed of. That crying mom moment gets you Every single time, and that's exactly how these shows hook people. Your point about nobody explaining who pays is SO real, that part always bugged me too. Those shows are like junk food for your brain, dumb but weirdly comforting.
