I saw the weirdest cake at a bakery in Portland last weekend
I was walking past this little place called Sugar Rush and saw a cake in the window that looked like a giant, perfect avocado. I mean, it was green and had the pit and everything. I went inside to ask about it, and the baker told me it was a 'smashed avocado toast' cake for a birthday. It was a vanilla cake with matcha buttercream, and the 'pit' was a chocolate truffle. I guess it's a win for looking exactly like the thing, but I'm not sure I'd want to eat a cake that looks like my breakfast. Has anyone else seen a cake that looked like something it totally wasn't?

Sounds like a fun twist on dessert to me.

Not sure about that. Seems like it would ruin the original flavor.

Ruin the original flavor" is exactly what I used to say. Then I tried something like what green.iris is talking about and it actually made the whole thing better. Changed my mind completely.

Totally get what you mean, but it's part of this whole trend where food is trying to look like other stuff. Like those burgers that are actually donuts, or cupcakes that look like ramen bowls. It's all about the surprise, which is what @green.iris was pointing out. I saw a 'pizza' that was really a cookie cake with fruit slices for pepperoni. It's fun, but sometimes you just want a cake that looks like a cake, you know?
