My aunt swore her "no-knead bread" recipe was foolproof so I tried it and wound up with a hockey puck
So my aunt who bakes like once a year told me her no-knead bread method from some blog was guaranteed to work. I followed it exactly, let it sit for 18 hours like it said, and the dough looked like wet cement that didn't rise at all. Baked it anyway because she insisted that was normal and the oven would fix it. Came out flat and dense, like a doorstop you could actually hurt someone with. I checked the recipe again and saw she left out the part about using bread flour instead of all-purpose. Now I'm out 4 cups of flour and an entire afternoon I'll never get back. Has anyone else had a relative hand you a recipe that was missing like half the steps?

My aunt's "foolproof" recipe turned my kitchen into a crime scene with that hockey puck.

That whole "baking would fix it" thing is a classic move. Yeah, that's not how baking works. You can't just wish a bad dough into good bread. It sounds more like your aunt skimmed a recipe once and thought she knew the whole deal. People act like bread is magic when it's really just science you can mess up.
