A customer told me my fades looked "stacked" and it took me a minute to get it
So last month, a guy who's been coming to me for about 2 years finally spoke up. He said my fades had this stacked look where the blend lines weren't really blending... they just stopped. I was kind of embarrassed but he was right. I started using a finer guard progression and spending more time with my lever open and closed between each step. Now I check the blend with a mirror from every angle before I let them go. Anyone else had a customer call out something you thought you had locked down?

My buddy Jay had a barber tell him his edges looked like they were painted on.

Has @green.iris's buddy checked with him if it was meant as a compliment or a criticism? I used to think that kind of edge control was amazing, but now I see how it can look a little unnatural.

And @alice928 that's a good point about if it was meant as a compliment, but from the way he explained it to me it sounded more like a polite critique. Like he was trying to help me out, not just throw shade. Honestly when someone says stacked it's usually not a good thing in fades - it means the lines are sitting on top of each other instead of flowing smooth. I had a client straight up tell me my blend line looked like a staircase once. That one stung but it fixed my whole approach to how I open and close the blade between guards. You ever get feedback that felt rough at first but actually made you better?
