My clipper died mid fade on a walk-in and I had to finish him with scissors
Last Tuesday around 4pm a walk-in sat down for a skin fade and my 4 year old Wahl started making a grinding noise and just quit with one side half done. I panicked for a second, then grabbed my shears and spent 40 minutes blending the taper by hand while he kept asking if I was almost done. He actually tipped me $10 extra and said it was the quietest cut he ever got, but my wrist was sore for two days. Has anyone else had a clipper die at the worst possible moment, and did you finish the cut or reschedule the guy?

That $10 tip says a lot, because most guys just want it to look right and they don't care what tool got you there. The real issue is walk-ins are a trap for dead clippers, since you can't just tell a guy with half a fade to come back Thursday when he's already in the chair. Keep a backup pair charged and in the drawer, even a cheap $40 set, because 40 minutes of scissor blending will wreck your wrist every time.
