DAE notice that HOA rule about 'no overnight parking' doesn't actually define 'overnight'?
My HOA in Phoenix tried to fine me $75 for parking my truck in front of my own house at 11:47 PM last Tuesday. I read the whole 42 page covenant, and the word 'overnight' never gets a time window, just says 'overnight parking is prohibited.' I showed up to the board meeting with a printed copy and asked them to define it, and they couldn't. They dropped the fine but now they're 'reviewing the language.' Has anyone else run into a rule that sounds super clear until you actually try to pin down what it means?
Vague rules like that are a gift and a curse. They can't enforce what they can't define, so you basically win by default. But then they go and "review the language" which means they'll come back with some even more annoying wording that still doesn't actually solve anything. My old place had a "no commercial vehicles" rule and it took three board meetings to figure out if a pickup with a ladder rack counted. Spoiler: nobody ever really decided.
