My lease had a line about 'routine touch-ups' and the landlord tried to charge me $340 for paint
So three years ago I signed a lease in Columbus that said I had to pay for "routine touch-ups" at move out, and I didn't think much of it at the time. Last month I finally moved out and got a bill for $340 in paint, even though the walls were white when I moved in and white when I left. I dug up my signed copy and the lease never said who picks the color or what counts as routine, so I pushed back and asked for the receipts and the paint code in writing. They dropped it to $60 within a day. Does a vague clause like that hold up anywhere, or do most people just pay it to make the hassle stop?
