Warning: signed a 6 month lease with a 60 day notice clause and almost got stuck for two more months

I had to pick between a 12 month lease in Austin at $1,450 a month or a 6 month lease at $1,610 with a written 60 day notice rule tacked on at the end. I took the 6 month one since my job was shaky, and when I gave notice on day 61 the manager tried to say the 60 days only counted from the start of the next rent cycle, not from when I handed in the letter. I pulled out the exact clause, which just said 60 days written notice with no mention of cycles, and they dropped it after two emails. Turns out that vague wording is the whole trick, so has anyone else run into a notice clause that never says when the clock starts?
