Can we talk about how my tile guy counted 87 crooked cuts on one wall

I had a guy quote me $1,400 for the shower tile job in my upstairs bath and figured it was fair until my brother in law looked at the wall and said 87 of the cuts were off by at least a quarter inch. Turns out the guy was cutting wet tile on a wobbly folding table from his truck bed and just eyeballing the pattern. Is there a normal way to check someone's cuts before they walk out the door, or do I just stand there with a level and look like a jerk?
