Overheard a contractor say you should never use dark grout on a bathroom floor

After my dark gray grout in my bathroom in Portland has looked perfect for 3 years with zero staining while my neighbor's white grout is already turning yellow, isn't it time we stop acting like light grout is the only option?

Dark grout's been the secret that nobody talks about. My buddy put dark gray grout in his mudroom three years ago and you can't even tell his kids track dirt through there every day. That white grout looks clean for maybe a week before it starts trapping every single hair and dust speck like a magnet. It's like the contractor who said never use dark grout never actually cleaned a bathroom floor himself.

My Portland client has had her charcoal grout in a wet entryway for 5 years now and it still looks like the day they installed it. The dark color hides every bit of soap scum and dirt that would show up immediately on white. White grout is like putting a white shirt on a kid who plays in mud, it just doesn't make sense for a floor that gets wet and dirty. Dark grout is the practical choice for anyone who wants to actually use their bathroom without scrubbing grout lines every month.

That dark color trick works on car interiors too... hides the coffee spills way better than tan.

OH FOR SURE! I switched to dark charcoal grout in my own bathroom two years ago after fighting with white grout for way too long. The difference is NIGHT and day - I barely have to clean the grout now, just a quick mop and it looks fresh. White grout made me feel like I was always scrubbing and it would still look dingy. Dark grout is the best decision I ever made for a bathroom floor, hands down.
