Spent 3 weekends staring at tile samples before I picked the boring one
When we redid the guest bath in our house near Akron, I got stuck on one dumb choice for way longer than I should have. It came down to a matte white 4x12 subway tile or a busy patterned encaustic-look tile that cost about $9 a square foot more. My wife wanted the pattern, I wanted the white, and we went back and forth for three straight weekends. I finally caved and picked the matte white because I kept picturing trying to clean grout lines on that busy pattern after a few years of hard water. Laying it took me two Saturdays and I screwed up the niche edge twice, but the white actually made the small room feel way bigger. Six months in, no regrets, and my wife even admitted the pattern would've been too loud in a 5x7 space. Anyone else pick the plain option and feel weirdly good about it later?
