Paid $65 for a police scanner app during the LA fires and it beat every news alert I had
Last week when those fires were moving fast, I dropped $65 on a year of a scanner app after my cousin in Altadena told me the TV crews were an hour behind what dispatchers were actually saying. I sat there for two nights listening to real callouts about which streets were getting shut down and where crews were staging, and the official updates on my phone kept repeating stuff I already knew. Am I crazy for thinking more people should just listen to the source instead of waiting for a reporter to sum it up?

65 bucks is a lot but I get it. My brother in Glendale did the same thing during the Creek fire a few years back and heard about the evacuation order on the scanner a solid 40 minutes before the county sent the alert. The news anchors were still doing that "we're monitoring the situation" thing while he was already packing his truck. People forget reporters have to confirm stuff and get it approved before it goes out, so yeah, the raw feed is always gonna be faster.
