The year I defended John Wayne at Thanksgiving and lost my aunt forever

Back in 2019 at my aunt's place in Boise, I made the mistake of saying John Wayne was overrated as an actor. My cousin brought up his politics, and suddenly it wasn't about movies anymore. I tried to pivot to his later films like The Shootist, but she just stared at her mashed potatoes. For three years now she only sends me birthday texts with a period at the end. Anyone else have a dead celebrity opinion that cost them a real family relationship?
