The same dented Trek came back after 6 months and I barely recognized the drivetrain
A guy dropped off a 2014 Trek 7.2 last March with a chain so stretched it was skipping in three gears, and I quoted him a full drivetrain swap at $180. He said he'd think about it and took the bike home. He rolled back in last week and the chain, cassette, and chainrings all looked clean and smooth, so I asked what shop did the work. Turns out he just started wiping the chain with a rag and putting on $8 of lube every two weeks, and he got about 2,500 more miles out of parts I'd already written off. What's the longest you've seen a drivetrain last on nothing but regular chain care?
