My sister swore I'd drop 'The Wire' by episode 4, and I almost believed her
My sister watched 'The Wire' back in 2019 and quit after 3 episodes, so when I started it last month she kept telling me it doesn't get good until season 2 and I should just skip ahead. I trusted her and jumped to season 2, which was a huge mistake, I had no clue who half the characters were or why the docks mattered. Went back and watched season 1 straight through and by episode 5 I was hooked, finished all 5 seasons in 11 days. So now I'm wondering, what show did someone tell you to skip ahead on and it totally backfired?
My buddy told me to start Breaking Bad at season 3 because "the first two seasons are slow." I did it for about 20 minutes, realized I had zero idea why Walt was acting so weird or who this Gus guy even was, and turned it off. Went back to episode 1 and binged the whole thing in two weeks. The thing is, the slow stuff is the whole point. You need those early episodes to see Walt as a normal sad guy before he turns, otherwise the change means nothing. Skipping ahead is like reading the last chapter of a book first, sure you get the ending but you miss why it matters. My sister pulled the same thing with The Wire and I'm glad I ignored her the second time around.
