Subtitle timing changed how I watch everything now

Noticed during a rewatch of The Wire that the subs give away the twist a full 4 seconds before the actors say it on screen. Now I turn them off for first viewings of any show, found this out by accident last month. Anyone else catch spoilers in the caption track or am I just too quick a reader?

Subtitle reading is a different skill entirely, and I found that out when I watched a French film with my wife a few years back. She reads them at nearly the same speed as the dialogue, but I always lag by a beat, so I miss half the jokes. The real trouble started when I switched to a British crime show and the subtitles used the slang terms before the characters stumbled through them. It ruined a few good reveals for me, so now I just read the episode summary on Wikipedia before I start. That way the captions can spoil whatever they want and it does not matter. My wife thinks I am crazy, but at least I am not getting surprised by the plot anymore.
