That 17 episode anime binge broke my subtitles habit for good
I always watched subs. Since high school. Friends told me dubs were fine but I refused. Thought it was the only real way. Then last Friday I was so tired after work I hit play on a dubbed episode by accident and didn't notice for 10 minutes. I was actually following the story better because I could watch the faces, not reading the bottom of the screen. Went back and rewatched the whole season dubbed over the weekend. Missed so much visual detail all these years. Anyone else have a stubborn watching rule that turned out to be totally pointless?

Ngl I still think subs hit different. Yeah you miss some visual stuff but the actual voice acting in Japanese just carries more emotion to me. Dubs always sound kinda... flat? Like they're reading lines instead of living them. You do you but I'm not switching anytime soon.

Dubs are the only way I can knit during the opening credits anymore. Reading subs while counting stitches is how I ended up with a scarf that's four rows wider on one end.
