The Expanse had me ready to quit after 3 episodes

Everyone kept telling me it was the best sci-fi show out there. I tried it twice and fell asleep both times before episode 4. All the political stuff felt like a slog, and I couldnt tell the factions apart. Then my buddy Mike said give it six episodes, thats when it clicks. I pushed through last weekend and yeah, he was right. Once the protomolecule stuff really kicks in and the detective plot in the belt starts moving, it turns into a totally different show. The ship combat alone is worth it, and the characters actually grow on you. Am I the only one who almost bailed on a show that ended up being a top 10 binge?
