Always thought spring swages were too fussy, but bending a complex scroll by hand changed my mind.

What specific part of the scroll made you switch? Trying to get those tight, even bends by hand shows you exactly where a tool earns its keep. It's one of those jobs that teaches you the value of the right gear through pure frustration.

Nah, all that weird wobble from doing it by hand gives it character. Perfectly even bends can start to look like they came from a factory, lol.

Tried to hand-bend a simple bracket last month and ended up with something that looked like a modern art project. My wife asked if it was supposed to be a snake that forgot how to snake. Now it holds up a wonky shelf in the garage, and every time I see it I laugh. The imperfections totally tell a story, but man, they also show why some people just BUY the straight ones.

My friend fought with a hand-bent scroll for an entire weekend. The bends were nowhere near even, but the final piece had a ton of personality. He keeps it on his bench as a reminder that good work doesn't always mean perfect.
