Blew out a forge weld last Tuesday because I didn't check my flux for moisture
Three years ago I never thought twice about my borax but after grabbing a damp container from the shelf I had a piece of steel pop apart at 2000 degrees and almost took my eye out so has anyone else had flux issues from improper storage?

Preheated borax on the forge deck ever since I got popped with hot flux.

Kept my borax in a Ziploc bag inside a sealed coffee can after that happened to me. Tossed a few silica gel packs in there too, the kind you get from shoe boxes, and it stays bone dry even in my damp shop. I also started warming my flux on the back of the forge for ten minutes before using it to bake out any hidden moisture. That saved me from another close call when I accidentally left the container open overnight.
