Shoutout to the old anvil I picked up at a farm auction last month
I found this beat up Fisher anvil at a farm auction in rural Ohio for $80. The face has got some chipping and a few dings, but after cleaning off the rust it rings like a bell. Three years ago I would have passed on something like this, wanting a perfect new one from the catalog. Has anyone else had good luck bringing old anvils back to life with just a flap disc and some patience?

Was a snob about new tools too. Old stuff just hits DIFFERENT.

You ever read that old blacksmithing blog post about how the steel in vintage anvils actually has more carbon than modern ones... crazy how they don't make 'em like that anymore.

Old stuff just hits DIFFERENT" - ain't that the truth. Kinda makes you wonder if we've been trained to think new equals better when really a lot of that old stuff was built to last, not just to look pretty on a shelf.
