Watched a guy at the Midwest Blacksmith Gathering in Madison forge weld a chain link in one heat and it changed how I set my fire
I was at the Midwest Blacksmith Gathering in Madison back in September, standing by the coal forges watching a demo on scarfing and chain links. This older smith named Ray from Iowa kept his fire mounded up into a dome instead of spread flat, and he welded a link shut on the first try without a single sparkler in sight. Does anyone else build their coal fire into a dome like that, or is a flat fire still the way most of you run it?
