Why is everyone so scared of a little scale on their anvil?

I keep seeing folks at the local guild meeting stop to wire brush their anvil face after every single heat. It adds up to maybe 15 minutes of wasted time per project. A bit of scale isn't going to hurt your work or your tool, it's just extra cleanup at the end. Am I the only one who thinks this is overkill?

You said it adds up to 15 minutes, and that's exactly what got me. I timed myself once and realized I was spending more time brushing than hammering on some small projects. Now I just do a quick brush when I change tasks, like before I start drawing out a taper. It cut my cleanup time in half without any problems.

Man, I used to be totally cool with it. Then I saw how it actually works behind the scenes one time, the whole process. Completely changed my view, now it bugs me too.
