My local news got caught showing the same extra in 3 different crowd shots
Last Tuesday my wife paused the 6pm news because she swore she saw the same guy behind two different reporters. Sure enough, I rewound and there he was at the city hall protest, then the farmers market clip, then the high school fundraiser, all within 4 minutes of air. Same red jacket, same hat, same little hand wave. Turns out the station was recycling b-roll from one shoot and just splicing it in wherever a crowd shot fit. Did anyone else catch this or do I just watch the news too close?
Watched a station do this exact thing a few years back with a guy in a bright yellow raincoat, and I just laughed it off as lazy editing. Then I started noticing it everywhere, same grandma in the background of three different "concerned parents" interviews, the same dog at two separate parades. Now I keep an eye out for it on purpose because once you see the repeats you can't unsee them. Reusing old crowd shots is cheaper than sending a crew out again, so it happens way more than folks realize. Your wife has a good eye.
