My father-in-law's 2 a.m. rule changed how I set up game night
Last Saturday he saw me sorting components into separate bowls and asked why I was doing that before picking teams. He said the game doesn't start until everyone understands the end condition, not when the pieces are ready. Has anyone else tried explaining victory points before even pulling out the board, or does that just slow things down for your group?

Ha, that's a solid point! It reminds me of how people argue about chores or money before they even agree on what "done" or "fair" looks like. Everyone's playing a different game in their head and then gets mad when the results don't match. Getting the end goal out in the open first saves a ton of headache later, even if it feels slow at the start.
