My friend said to never play a heavy euro with new people on game night
He told me to stick with something like Codenames for the first hour, but I ignored him and brought out Brass Birmingham with my wife's coworkers. We spent 45 minutes just setting up and explaining rules, and the vibe was totally dead. What's your go-to game for a mixed group of new and experienced players?

My group always starts with Skull, it takes two minutes to teach and gets people laughing.

Okay but "takes two minutes to teach" is a bit optimistic. The RULES are simple, but getting people to understand the BLUFFING part always takes my group longer. We spend at least five minutes answering questions before the first round even starts. It's still a great starter though.

Totally get that... used to think the bluffing was the hard part too. But seeing someone get caught in a bad lie on the first round teaches it faster than any explanation. Now I just jump right in and let it happen.

The real trick is who you teach it to first. A shy person will freeze up, but put the most competitive friend in that hot seat and they'll teach the whole table through sheer chaos.
