Question about my game box inserts: 6 months of foam core vs. 3D printed trays
Honestly I used to just bag everything in ziplocs and call it good, but last August I finally tried making my own foam core insert for Terraforming Mars. The setup time went from about 10 minutes of digging through bags down to 2 minutes of pulling trays out. Then in January a guy at my local game night in Denver showed me his 3D printed trays and I was kinda jealous of how clean they looked. I switched over last month and now setup is maybe 90 seconds, but the pieces fit so tight I worry about wear. Has anyone else gone from foam core to printed inserts and noticed their cards getting scuffed? I am trying to figure out if I should line the card slots with felt or just deal with it.

Watched a buddy of mine go down this same rabbit hole with his Gloomhaven box, except his problem was the opposite. His foam core started sagging after about a year because his basement gets damp in the summer, and the trays stopped sitting flat. He ended up cutting thin cork shelf liner and gluing it into the card slots, which fixed both the sag and the scuffing in one shot. Felt works too but it fuzzes up over time and gets stuck to card edges, so I would lean toward cork or even that thin neoprene sheet stuff. On the tight fit thing, a lot of printed trays are sized for unsleeved cards, so if you sleeve yours that pressure gets way worse. Might be worth checking whether the scuffs are coming from the walls or just from cards rubbing together when you pull them out.
