Showerthought: the little cardboard chit in my copy of Axis & Allies says it was printed in 1984, which is older than half my game group
I was sorting through my closet last weekend looking for something totally unrelated and pulled out my old Axis & Allies box, mostly because the lid was caving in. Flipped over one of the little cardboard country chits and there's a tiny copyright stamp on it, 1984. That thing is 40 years old and I've been hauling it from apartment to apartment since college like it's some kind of family heirloom. Here's the funny part, we played it at game night a couple weeks back at my buddy's place in Akron and the two youngest guys at the table kept asking why the pieces were so small and dull compared to the new version. I told them the whole thing cost me $4 at a garage sale in 2009 and the box has survived three moves, two floods, and one very angry cat. It got me thinking about how most of the stuff on my shelf now is shiny and huge and plastic, but this beat up old box has seen more table time than anything else I own. So now I'm curious, what's the oldest game in your collection that still actually hits the table, not just sits there looking vintage?
