I finally shared my custom book notes, and the club tore them apart.

I spent all week making detailed notes with color coded themes for our last pick. During the debate, everyone just argued about minor plot holes. It felt like my effort was wasted.

Sharing notes early focused the discussion on my analysis, not trivial stuff.

My friend Jamie made these amazing notes for her club's read of 1984, full of color-coded parallels to modern politics. She had like twenty pages printed for everyone. The whole meeting, they just argued about whether the timeline for Winston's diary made sense, not a single person talked about her work. She was so let down she almost quit the group. I saved a copy of her notes because they were that good, and the club totally missed the point. It happens way too often where people get caught on the wrong thing.

Why do clubs fixate on tiny details? Such a waste of good notes.
