Just spent $60 on a fancy bookmark that clips onto the page and I'm actually mad about it
I thought a magnetic bookmark would save me from losing my spot in our book club's current read, but the thing kept sliding off and now I'm wondering if anyone else has found a cheap hack that actually keeps their place without costing more than the book itself?

Did you try a paperclip? I just clip a paperclip on my page number and it never falls off, costs like a penny.

Paperclips are actually genius for that. I started doing the same thing a few years ago after losing three bookmarks in a week. The trick is to bend one end of the paperclip flat so it doesn't scratch up the pages or leave a dent. You can also get those colored plastic coated paperclips at the dollar store that look a little nicer. The only thing is they don't work great on thin pages like in paperback novels unless you clip just the very edge. Still beats paying five bucks for a bookmark that slides out the second you close the book.

Ngl I actually tried the plastic coated ones and they left a weird sticky residue on my pages after a while. The plain metal ones are better tbh, just bend the tip like you said and they're good. Only thing is you gotta watch out for rust if you live somewhere humid, I learned that the hard way.
