$85 bone folder vs a $6 teflon one, which one earned its keep?
Spent $85 on a real bone folder two months back after my $6 teflon one started leaving shine marks on dark cloth. The bone one creases clean and smooth every time, no drag, no marks. But here is the other side: my buddy at the shop in Dayton has used the same cheap teflon one for 3 years and swears the bone folder is overpriced hype. $79 more for a tool that mostly does the same job. Does the material really matter that much on soft paper? I keep going back and forth and I want to hear from people who use both daily.
Watched a friend wreck a custom dust jacket last week with her cheap teflon folder. She pressed too hard on a fold and it left a shiny streak right across the title. The bone folder guy next to her did the same fold twice on scrap and got nothing, clean as could be. She ended up reprinting the whole jacket. So the tool does the job fine until it doesn't, and then you're out more than the $79 you saved.
