I always thought those $200 bone folders were a total scam until I borrowed one from a friend in Seattle last month.
Now I'm torn between thinking it's just a fancy stick and admitting the finish on my leather work is noticeably smoother, so what's the real deal: essential tool or overpriced hype?

Honestly felt the same way about fancy tools until I tried a good bone folder for bookbinding. The weight and polish on a real one just glides differently than plastic or cheap wood. It's one of those things you don't get until you use it. Now I'm saving up for my own, the difference is real.

Yeah that moment when you finally use a proper tool is a game changer. I mean I used to fold cards with the back of a spoon before getting a decent folder, and it's just not the same clean line. Maybe start with just one good tool for your main project instead of replacing everything at once. Idk it helps the wallet shock a bit.

Tell me about it... I used a plastic folder once for some craft project and it felt like trying to spread butter with a credit card. @zara_sanchez is totally right, you just have to feel the good tool in your hand to get it. Now I'm looking at my own cheap stuff sideways, wondering what else I've been putting up with. It's a slippery slope once you know what quality actually feels like. Guess my wallet's about to get lighter too.
