My old shop teacher swore by PVA and nothing else, and 6 months later my spine is still stiff as a board
Back in September I finished my first leather journal and my shop teacher from vo-tech, Mr. Hanley, waved off my wheat paste idea and said just use straight PVA on the spine, it holds better. I did it his way and by December the spine cracked wide open at the hinge on my own book, sitting on a shelf, never even opened hard. Turns out the man bound paperbacks for a living, not leather over cords, and the glue went rock hard with no give. Any of you use PVA straight on leather spines or do you always blend it with paste for a little flex?
