That "nice lady" on the neighborhood app who helped me find my lost cat for 3 hours was probably a script
Last month my cat slipped out and I posted on the local app around 9pm, and within a minute a woman named "Carol from Oak Park" messaged me saying she saw a gray tabby near the library. She asked the same three questions in the same order every time I replied (cat color, last seen spot, does he have a collar), and when I asked if she could send a photo she "didn't know how to do that on here." I didn't catch on until my sister pointed out the account was 4 days old and had 11 posts with the identical line "hope you find them soon, stay strong." So I guess I spent close to 3 hours trading messages with a bot while my actual neighbors were the ones who found him under a porch on Harrison. Has anyone else had a "helpful" stranger online turn out to be a script?
