TIL I compared how I fact check AI replies versus how I check random internet strangers and the difference surprised me
Last week I got into a back and forth on a different forum with someone who sounded super sure of themselves, and something felt off, so I did two tests on the same reply. First I pasted their paragraph into a checker I use for bot text, and second I just did what I always do with a real person, which is look at their post history and ask them one weird specific question about their day. The checker gave me a boring maybe, which helped nobody. But the history trick did it in about 90 seconds, because the account had 40 posts in 3 days and every single one used the same sentence shape and the same little transition word. The weird question sealed it too, since they answered with a long general thing and zero detail about the actual thing I asked. So the boring old trick beat the fancy tool, and honestly the tool just made me feel smart while the history check actually worked. Has anyone found a checker that does beat just poking around someone's old posts? I want to be wrong about this.
